AVG Internet Security Business Edition

AVG Internet Security Business Edition 2012

AVG Internet Security Business Edition provides the essentials to keep your computer clean and running smoothly. In addition to the normal features such as anti-spyware and virus scans, this internet security suite provides protection against rootkits and malicious websites.

The suite is completely scalable for small businesses, and it provides comprehensive and customizable protection for your unique network, with components including the AVG Email Server Edition, AVG for Windows, AVG for SharePoint, AVG for Lotus Domino and AVG Admin for Windows. The suite offers simple management and powerful features. However, it lacks a number of features that its competitors provide.

AVG's anti-virus protection is certified by all five of the certification bodies that we included in our evaluation. Virus Bulletin scores it in the 90-percent range cumulatively, and it is Checkmark Platinum certified by West Coast Labs. However, it is ISCA certified in detection but not in cleaning. AV-Test.org gives it an average score, and AV-Comparatives.org gives it a low score.

AVG is home to one of the better anti-virus applications available. It provides real-time and intelligent scanning, a solid web shield and automatic updates. It quarantines and cleans infected files, but it does not provide a description of the malware, nor does it provide rollback functionality or frequent system backups.

The AVG Internet Security Business Edition is specifically designed to work with Microsoft Exchange Servers and Microsoft SharePoint. The suite provides protection against spam. AVG effectively defends your business from spyware, adware and identity theft. AVG is well known for its anti-spyware tool, which uses the effective ADS (Alternate Data Stream) tool. However, it does not let you manually block websites or content to which you don't want your employees to have access.

AVG's anti-rootkit feature prevents unauthorized administrative access to a computer. It also helps you to maintain control over your business resources and enforce your company's security policies.

AVG's firewall is workstation-based, protecting each employee workstation individually. Its firewall is a strong, no-holds-barred blocker. It might even work too well. It seems to want to ask permission for every application that is installed, and it even asks permission multiple times for software that it has already cleared.

AVG's security suite is relatively small, and as such, it is easy to use. The configuration only requires you to set up the desktop firewall; other tasks are set up automatically. The software will alert you when problems arise, and then it is simple to take care of the problems as they occur. The AVG Admin console facilitates remote installation and complete central management. AVG Admin also includes tools to help monitor overall security and to generate a variety of graphic reports.

AVG provides email-based tech support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, along with phone support. You can find answers to most questions by searching the knowledgebase on its website or by creating a new post on its user forum. However, we were not able to locate step-by-step tutorials that describe how to take advantage of the suite's features.
